11/10/2010 - “Next year, we want to be champions”

Zolder - BTCS final

Four wins, two second places, among which one in the longest and most prestigious race of the season the Spa 12 Hours and one third place, those are the numbers of the 2010 BTCS-season for the Volvo S60.

How can one not be satisfied with such an inaugural season”, Vincent Radermecker states, after spraying all the members of the Volvo S60 Racing Team with champagne. “Exactly six months ago our Volvo drove its first race, on this Zolder track. It became clear very fast that we could fight for the win. Today as well we were among the frontrunners. Without a small problem with the brake repartition we could have doubled our number of wins today. But a win and a second are good results to get through the winter.

Every member of the team can be proud of this season, during which the whole team became better and better”, Eric van de Poele adds. “Together we made the car more reliable and more performant.

And for the drivers and the members of Volvo S60 Racing this is only the beginning.

We want to work hard all winter long to make the car even better”, team managers Fernand and Thomas Neri confirm. “Our Volvo S60 is only at the start of its development, so we can explore numerous solutions to improve the performance of our car. Next year we will be aiming for the title.

This first season of the Volvo S60 created a lot of enthusiasm”, René Aerts Jr, spokesperson for Volvo Cars Belgium states. “Very quickly our project appeared on the radar of the Swedish decision makers, which looked at it with a lot of interest. And here in Belgium we were proud to show off the gracious bodywork of the racing version of the Volvo S60 to the Belgian public, even before the car was in the showroom. Among the staff of our factory in Ghent, where the Volvo S60 is built, the enthusiasm kept on growing. That is why we invited some 200 staff of the production unit during a previous meeting, so they could admire the performances of the Volvo S60 on the famous Spa track.
